Influenza activity in Los Angeles County is increasing. Clinicians should expect visits from significant numbers of patients with influenza-like illness over the upcoming days and weeks.
Currently, most influenza A infections in Los Angeles County are due to novel influenza A H1N1 virus.
The symptoms and severity of novel H1N1 infections are similar to seasonal flu.
Although most cases have been mild, additional hospitalizations and deaths are anticipated during the upcoming weeks and months.
