Measles cases are surging in Kyrgyzstan with the most cases registered in the capital, Kazinform News Agency reports.

As of March 12, 2024, there were reported 5,446 measles cases. Of which 1,653 cases account for Bishkek, 907 for Osh region, and 1,228 for Chu region, the republican immunological prophylaxis center of the Kyrgyz Healthcare Ministry said in a statement.​..

Two children with measles have died in Kyrgyzstan since the beginning of the year. The information was confirmed by the Director of the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis Gulbara Ishenapysova.

The measles situation in Kyrgyzstan remains tense, Kabar reported citing the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis of the country’s Ministry of Health.

According to data of the Immunoprophylaxis Center, 2,046 cases of measles have been registered in the country as of February 10, 2025.

Of these, 1,972 patients (96%) were not vaccinated: 695 cases were not vaccinated due to age (34%), 889 cases due to refusal (43%), 29 cases due to migration (1%), 219 cases due to medical exemptions (11%), 140 cases with unknown vaccination status (7%).

The situation with measles in the republic remains tense. The main increase in cases is observed in the city of Bishkek, where 1,291 cases have been registered, which is 62% of the total. The main reason for the increase in cases remains the large number of refusals from routine immunization against measles and rubella among children, the Immunoprophylaxis Center noted.

The Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic has strengthened preventive and anti-epidemiological measures to combat measles.​..
