Health Department issues alert about outbreak of Shigella

An outbreak of Shigella infections have been detected by the Lincoln Trail District Health Department, specifically Nelson and Hardin counties.
The department issued an alert today.
Approximately 50 laboratory confirmed cases have been recorded, according to a statement by Donny Gill, public information officer for the department.
The majority of the cases have been in daycare age children. Gill said child care centers are working diligently with the health department in preventing further spread of this illness...
