The sloth of KMC officials in tackling cases of dengue and malaria in the city showed up again after officials from the civic body failed to take concrete steps against the erring caretaker of Sealdah court premises.

A notice was slapped by the KMC on September 11 soon after larvae was found inside the premises. But days after the mandate, the civic body has not yet sent a team to probe the steps taken by the court authorities to tackle the problem.
Debdaipayan Chattopadhyay, chief medical officer, health department (CMOH), KMC, had said: ?We have given them 10 days to look into the matter and come up with a solution. Our officials will personally visit the area after 10 days, ie, on September 21 and see if any steps have been taken to tackle the menace.? Incidentally, no team from the KMC has visited the place yet to assess the situation.

Subodh Dey, member, mayor-in-council, health department, KMC had said: ?If the KMC team visiting Sealdah finds that no action has been taken within the set time, we will take the issue in our hands.

In case, there is no initiative from the Sealdah court, the health department will try to find out the reason behind larvae breeding and find solutions to it.

Action will be taken in accordance with the rules of the KMC Act.?

Asked about the actions taken, Chattopadhyay today said (two weeks after the notice was slapped on the court): ?We do not have any news. A team from our department has most probably visited the place today. We will get a report by tomorrow.?
