Knoxville, TN: Disabled woman forcibly discharged from hospital, arrested, mocked before losing consciousness and dying

Lisa Edwards was from Knoxville, TN, and suffered a stroke after moving to Rhode Island to be near family as she aged. Apparently, the isolating Covid restrictions in her nursing home in RI finally caused her to decide to return home to Knoxville. She suffered a medical emergency upon landing in Knoxville and was taken to a hospital. Her wheelchair was left behind in the airport. She was treated at one hospital, but after discharge from that one sought care at a second hospital, Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. That one forcibly discharged her and called police. She was abused because she couldn't walk or climb into a paddy wagon. She was accused of faking her pain, mobility limitations, and need for an inhaler. She told them she was having a stroke and was slurring her words, but they made fun of her. They got her in the back of a police cruiser, where she became 'unresponsive' and then died the next day.

This could happen to any anyone traveling alone in this country today.

...The hospital, the doctor who released her and the police are liable in my view and I hope a tenacious attorney steps up to get her family some justice.
