SSAQUAH, Wash. -- A family of six poisoned by carbon monoxide is back home and feeling much better. Rescuers found potentially deadly levels of carbon monoxide in their Issaquah home Saturday morning after their family van was accidentally left running in the garage, firefighters said.
"The family was extremely fortunate," said Eastside Fire and Rescue Deputy Chief Michael Boyle. "This could have had a much worse outcome."
The homeowner, who asked not to be identified, said he's extremely thankful his van eventually ran out of gas after he pulled into his garage Friday night. He must have forgotten to turn his van's engine off in a rush to get his sick child inside the home, firefighters said.
The van has a keyless start system. The homeowner believes he removed the electronic key fob from the van, but the van kept running....
