Five died of dengue in Karnataka

Bangalore, Sep 16 (PTI) Five persons died due to dengue in Karnataka since January this year and preventive measures were being taken to check the disease, the state government said today.

Of the 32 suspected dengue patients, only five tested positive, health minister B Sreeramulu told reporters here after reviewing the steps taken to check the spread of the mosquito-borne disease

While two deaths were reported from Mysore, one each died in Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural and Srirangapatna, he said.

The government has decided to procure more testing kits from the Pune-based National Institute for Virology in the wake of increased suspected dengue cases, Sreeramulu said.

Medication for leptospirosis included for those with fever

BELLARY: Galeppa from Dharmasagar in Hospet taluk, who was undergoing treatment for dengue at the Viajayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) hospital, died on Saturday.
Dharamsagar is adjacent to Bhuvanahalli, Kotaginahal Byluvaddigeri and surrounding villages in the taluk, where malaria has broken out and claimed 13 lives since October 18.Meanwhile, doctors have decided to include medication for leptospirosis for those complaining of fever in the malaria-affected villages.

This is being done after eight blood samples collected in Bhuvanahalli, from where the malaria deaths were reported, tested positive for leptospirosis.-snip-

3 dead, 15 ill 'due to dengue' in Haveri

HAVERI: The residents of Haveri are panic-stricken following the death of three persons, apparently due to dengue. This has prompted the health department officials to swing into action to keep the epidemic at bay.

Hitherto, whenever the villagers were taken ill, the officials used to say that they had sent blood samples for tests. But when the patients are dead, they got away with the cases, saying the fatalities were not due to dengue.

Man dies; dengue suspected
Mandya, November 30, DHNS :

Cheeranahalli Umesh (33) who was suffering from high fever and headache succumbed to illness on Tuesday.


He was admitted to a private hospital in Mandya for headache and fever where he was given preliminary treatment and was later shifted to a hospital in Mysore for further treatment.

Though it is suspected that he might have died due to dengue, the medical report is not clear in stating the cause of death, said Dr Harshavardhan and Dr Manjula of Taggahalli Primary Health Centre.

Woman dies of dengue fever
Bharthinagar, November 30,

A woman lost her life to dengue fever in the town.


The deceased has been identified as Shobha (29) of Boppasamudra village. It is said that Shobha who was suffering from fever was admitted to a hospital in Mysore, where she succumbed on Monday.

Her husband Madaiah is a labourer. The doctors have confirmed the death was due to dengue

One more dengue death in Haveri?

DENGUE HAVERI: The death of one more person, apparently due to dengue, have left the residents of Haveri worried. However, the casualty has not made the health department officials to sit up and take notice of the dreaded disease.

A child died due to dengue in October while three others succumbed to the disease in November. Noorjahan Subhan Nadaf (36) of Shivaling Nagar was the latest victim to succumb to the fever at a private hospital in Hubli.
