LUDHIANA: The health department and Indian Medical Association planned a joint strategy to combat female feticide and threat of rising incidence of dengue fever and swine flu cases in the city. This was designed during a meeting attended by health authorities and IMA members on Friday.
Stressing on the role of doctor community to curb femicide, Dr Bhalla urged doctors to stick to the norms of PNDT Act. Explaining the arrangements to control dengue and swine flu in the district, she sought the participation of private doctors to control the situation.
President of IMA Ludhiana, Dr Narotam Dewan, promised full co-operation to the health authorities in their fight against femicide.
"IMA is against the social evil of sex selection and will not support any member who indulge in activities that violate the PNDT Act," he said.
But he appealed to the civil surgeon that undue harassment of the doctors should not be done under the guise of this Act.
