Japan copes with tainted food outbreak

In what appears to be a country-wide outbreak of food poisoning, 350 people in Japan have been sickened by the pesticide malathion after eating frozen chicken teriyaki with mayonnaise, cream corn croquettes or pizza, according to a police investigation...

TOKYO, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- More than 1,000 people across Japan were made ill by tainted frozen food produced by a division of the country's largest seafood company, officials said.

Police said they suspected the pesticide malathion may have been deliberately injected into the products, Jiji Press reported...
