Four workers have been exposed to radiation at a nuclear fuel plant, northeast of Tokyo. The accident was caused by a device that failed to work properly.

The deputy head of the Tokai Plant of Mitsubishi Nuclear Fuel, Takeshi Seko, spoke to reporters about the accident on Tuesday night.
Seko said a quality test was being conducted on uranium dioxide powder in a radiation-controlled area earlier in the day. A sample of the nuclear fuel material was being taken from a large container when the equipment malfunctioned. Eight grams of uranium was spilled onto the floor....

MITO, Japan (Kyodo) -- Four men working at a Mitsubishi Nuclear Fuel Co. factory in the village of Tokai, Ibaraki Prefecture, were exposed to an extremely low level of radiation on Tuesday due to a leakage of uranium dioxide powder.

The radiation should not cause any health problems for the men, who are in their 20s to 50s, and there will be no adverse effects on the outside environment, according to officials of the Ibaraki prefectural government....
