The Health Ministry is reporting that a sixth person has died as a result of the H1N1 virus.
The Ministry said Jamaica so far has 177 confirmed cases of the influenza virus also known as the swine flu.
The sixth casualty is said to have been within the high-risk group and died as a result of complications.
The high-risk group includes pregnant women, children under five years old and persons with chronic illnesses such as asthma, obesity, heart disease, diabetes and hypertension, or any condition that impairs the immune system.
Director of Emergency Disaster Management and Special Services in the Health Ministry, Dr Marion Bullock DuCasse is again urging individuals to observe proper hygiene practices to protect themselves from the Influenza A infection.
Dr Ducasse said people should stay away from others who have flu symptoms and stay home for at least a week if they are ill.
She said medical attention should be sought if symptoms persist or get worse or if persons fall within the high-risk group for complications.
