Concerned by the deaths of three people in the past 24 hours, Governor Emilio Gonzalez has reinstated the closure order on schools and ?entertainment centers? in the state of Jalisco.

At a press conference Friday afternoon, the governor said the ?probable cause? of the deaths of the three patients was a result of becoming infected with the influenza A-H1N1 virus.
The patients were a 35-year-old man from Tlaquepaque, a 24-year-old woman from Acatlan and an 11-month-old infant from Guadalajara.

Gonzalez has ordered all schools in the state to remain closed until Monday, May 18.

Private universities and high schools had resumed classes on Thursday. All primary and secondary schools, as well as campuses of the public Universidad de Guadalajara, were scheduled to reopen on Monday, May 11.

The closure order also includes bars, nightclubs, theaters, cinemas, cabarets, sporting arenas and other venues where large number of people may gather, Gonzalez said.

Bars and cinemas had reopened Wednesday after a five-day nationwide shutdown.

Gonzalez said he has instructed state health authorities to equip a high-tech laboratory with PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) technology capable of detecting the A-H1N1 virus. Previous tests carried out in the state have only been able to determine the presence of influenza A.

The governor said he would be putting daily information online regarding the number of H1N1 cases and deaths (suspected, probable and confirmed) in each of the state?s 125 municipalities.

Gonzalez said the state had sufficient stockpiles of medicine to treat the disease.

?It is essential to maintain preventative measures,? he said. ?Don?t shake hands or kiss when greeting, wash hands regularly, go to the doctor if you have any of the symptoms, and never self prescribe.?

Of the 11 new cases reported since Thursday afternoon, seven patients were from the Guadalajara metropolitan area, two from San Juan de los Lagos and one each from Encarnacion de Diaz and Colotlan. The six women and five men range in age from 10 to 42. All were given adequate treatment and have recovered, a press release said.
The American School in Guadalajara cancelled all its high school classes on Friday after learning that one of its students was among the confirmed cases. The student last attended class on April 24 before being taken ill. The bilingual school?s high school students had returned to classes on Thursday after a 10-day shutdown ordered by the federal government in a bid to stem the spread of the flu virus.
"We decided not to take any risks," school principal Janet Heinze told reporters Friday.

Governor Emilio Gonzalez has given bars, clubs and cinemas in 98 of Jalisco?s 125 municipalities the green light to reopen.

NEW: Check the Jalisco government's recently launched running total of confirmed, probable & suspected swine flu cases in the state.

Chapala and Puerto Vallarta ? areas with large U.S. and Canadian populations ? are among the municipalities where the restrictions have been lifted.

As well as bars and movie theaters, the governor last Friday ordered gyms, museums, cemeteries and sports arenas to stay shut.

All schools throughout the entire state, however, must remain closed until Monday, May 18.

Fears that the influenza A-H1N1 outbreak may not have peaked in Jalisco prompted the governor to ban large-scale public events and quarantine schools and some businesses for another week. Meanwhile, many other parts of Mexico, including Mexico City, returned to a regular routine this week.

Federal health authorities have not confirmed a single case of A-H1N1 influenza in any of the 98 municipalities given the reprieve. According to the Jalisco Health Department, there are 29 suspected cases in Puerto Vallarta and eight in Chapala. But because of a backlog at Mexico City laboratories, it may be some time before these specimens are tested.

The governor announced Tuesday that the number of confirmed A-H1N1 cases in Jalisco is 36.

As promised last week, the State Health Department has launched an informational website, informacioninfluenza.jalisco.gob.mx, which lists 178 "probable" cases and 2,178 "suspected" cases of the virus in Jalisco.

Gonzalez said Monday that medical staff at hopsitals and clinics had treated 7,000 people in Jalisco for flu-like symptoms, although he did not specify when this information started to be collated.
