In the province of Lodi are two wards in infectious and tropical diseases hospital in Sant'Angelo Lodigiano affected by West Nile fever, the virus transmitted by mosquitoes at night 'Po' Culex pipiens but originating in Egypt.
They had arrived in recent days in the hospital with high fever and confusion, in serious condition, and have been subjected to complex imaging procedures and serological which found the disease.

These are the first confirmed cases in the province of Lodi after anyway hospitals were activated with the diagnosis as a result of incidents in the neighboring provinces of Pavia, Cremona and Mantua.The disease can not be recognized, in less serious cases, and experienced by the patient asan influence that lasts about a week, but if not treated in some individuals can lead to encephalitis, coma and death.

West Nile in Emilia Romagna, still need to protect yourself from mosquitoes

West Nile Disease, in Emilia Romagna confirmed a case in a horse

The epidemiological bulletin dell?emilia Romagna reported 6 cases of horses with neurological symptoms. One case was confirmed in August. There have been reported six horses with neurological symptoms in the provinces of Plaisance (2), Parma, Bologna (2) and Werrara.

In Italy there are 14 cases confirmed to date from June of neuroinvasive disease caused by West Nile fever, most of whom (86%) in men with an average age of 70 years.

To make the point is the last newsletter of the Center for Infectious Disease Epidemiology Institute of Health (Cnesps-ISS). Two affected regions so far: Lombardy with 8 cases, and Emilia-Romagna with 6, of which 4 in the week between August 27 and September 2.
