Warning issued after second case of bird flu confirmed in wild duck

A second case of bird flu has been confirmed in a duck in Co Galway, the department has confirmed. In a statement, released this evening, the Department of Agriculture confirmed the second case of avian influenza H5N8 was found in a wigeon.
It continued: "This confirms that poultry flocks across the country are at risk from introduction of the virus."

This is the second case confirmed in the last number of weeks after an infected widgeon was discovered in Wexford town on December 28
