[h=1]Iowa egg facility hit with bird flu faces waste spill action[/h] Donnelle Eller, deller@dmreg.com 5:55 p.m. CST March 7, 2016 An egg-laying facility in northwest Iowa that was infected with bird flu nearly a year ago now faces state environmental action for a large waste spill that occurred months later.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources wants the state attorney general's office to take action against Sunrise Farms for illegally dumping wastewater in September.
The spill resulted in 163,000 fish being killed ? including 700 sport fish ? in 18 miles of stream.
... Sunrise Farms was among the first large egg-laying facilities infected with highly pathogenic avian influenza last April, resulting in 3.8 million laying hens being destroyed...
