Bird Flu in Egypt - Egypt's anti-bird flu experience on agenda of 6th International Avian Flu Conference

Egypt's experience in fighting bird flu will figure high on the agenda of the Sixth International Conference on Avian Influenza, set for the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on October 24-26, Health Ministry Spokesman Abdel-Rahman Shahin said Friday 11/7/2008.

Over the past period, preparatory meetings were held between representatives of the Egyptian health and agriculture ministries, in addition to a number of international organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO), the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), the World Bank (WB) and the United Nations, the spokesman said.

David Nabarro, Senior UN System Coordinator for Avian and Human Bird Flu, Special Representative for Avian Influenza and Human Pandemic at the US State Department John Lange and OIE Director General Bernard Vallat participated in the preparatory meetings.

The conference, to run for three days, will debate all that relates to the issue of bird flu and how to confront the disease, as well as plans, programs and strategies that the WHO outlines for enforcement by member states and the role of health sectors in this respect.

The previous conferences were held in Washington, Beijing, Vienna, Mali and New Delhi.
