One of the the PMI AI effort is community base bio security program.

In collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, PT. Dupont Indonesia, and Animal Husbandry Department of Indonesia, PMI is focusing on sector four / backyard smallholders (under 50 chickens) in 150 high risk villages.

As an initial phase, this bio security program was piloted in Sukabakti village, Curug, Tangerang in three backyard smallholders for one month.

Indonesian Red Cross volunteers will help in detecting avian influenza, educating the community on the importance of maintaining the cleanliness (bio security) of their backyard farms, and in properly applying disinfectant Virkon (R) S in the backyard farm area.

The Indonesian Red Cross Volunteers started the bio security program in the backyard farm. These volunteers demonstrated how to clean the community backyard farm to the owner. As their protection, these volunteers were also protected during their practice in Avian Flu risk area.

The Indonesian Red Cross volunteers sprayed the disinfectant (Virkon S) after cleaned the backyard farm. The Virkon S has chosen as disinfection during the program since independently proven inactivated Avian Flu virus strain H5N1. It is also friendly user for human, environment and animals.

As one the procedure in doing bio security program, the volunteers cleaned their body after practice. This cleaning process was held by spraying the disinfectant to their all body including the protection equipment.
