Makassar ? A 2-year-old child with initial PT, resident of Jalan Mallengkeri III, Kelurahan Mangasa, Kecamatan Tamalete is picked up from his residence by the Health Service officials because of continuous fever. The child is also showing bird flu-like signs.

PT was first admitted to Mangasa public health center because of having fever last for days. He was then transferred to Wahidin Sudirohusodo hospital to be isolated and to receive special treatment.

Head of Health Service in Makassar, dr Naisyah Azikin said the child showed signs such as high fever, coughing, runny nose and weakness, which were likely bird flu signs, so that the officials dispatched to investigate the child and surrounding people.

Patient?s parent said his child often having fever and examined in public health center

Investigation found there were chicken deaths within latest few days. Currently, no more chicken death is present and no symptoms observed among surrounding people.

Patient?s samples have been sent for laboratory examination and the result is expected within few days.

Makassar – The director of Wahidin Sudirohusodo hospital in Makassar, Andi Kalsum Patonangi, stated P, a 2-year-old bird flu suspect patient, is positive bird flu infection.

The diagnosis was taken after intensive examination by the medical team. The patient is now under intensive treatment, said Kalsum.

Patient had developed high fever, breathing difficulty and flu-like signs but now his condition’s improving, added Kalsum.

The patient probably got infection from contact with birds when his condition was weak.

Patient’s parent said his son is often playing with chickens, and lately numbers of chickens belong to the family and their neighbors had suddenly died. The dead chickens were burned and buried.

P started to develop fever and coughing after playing with chickens and his condition worsened so that his parents rushed him to Faisal hospital in Makassar. Later he was referred to Wahidin Sudirohusodo in Makassar.

Makassar ? Laboratory examination of Pt, a bird flu suspect patient has been issued by Disease Investigation Center in Makasar. The 2-year-old boy is apparently negative bird flu H5N1 infection.

However, he is suspected of having lung infection and now still treated in the hospital.
