Balinese Journalists Agreed To Stop The Envelope Culture

Denpasar - Alliance of the Independent Journalists (AJI) Denpasar together with the official of public relations from several government agencies signed the agreement to stop the "envelope culture" in various coverage activities of the news.
The agreement was realised with the signing of the banner be inscribed "Stop Envelope Culture! The Journalist Only Need Information" in the Secretariat of the AJI Denpasar, Street Pandu Denpasar, on Sunday (23/8/2009).
"This (giving of the envelope) the culture that must be combatted," stressed AJI Denpasar Rofiqi Hasan Chairman.
Several officials of government public relations that took part in signing the commitment together that in part from the Government of the Balinese Province, DPRD (legislature) Bali, Regional Police Bali, Government of the Denpasar City, PT Telcom, Bank Indonesia, and the Denpasar District Court.
It was stressed Rofiqi, the envelope crocodile was not only related to the naughty journalist who asked for money in coverage, but also related to the habit government agency as well as private that often gave an amount of money to the journalist.
The head of the Bureau of public relations of the Provincial Government Balinese Putu Suardhika added, the commitment stopped the envelope crocodile was very positive to increase the journalist's professionalism. However on the other side, must have efforts to increase welfare of the journalist.
Komisi I DPRD Bali Made Arjaya Chairman stressed, the commitment stopped the envelope culture must emerge from all over stakeholder, good the informant, the reporter, and the owner of the media.
"If none the commitment all of them, was difficult. Because of having many interests," stressed he.
The Head of Sector Public Relations Regional Police Bali Kombes I Gede Sugianyar acknowledged had several journalists who carried out abuse of the profession.
"There were many strategies faced the naughty journalist. One of them by not giving special space for them that arouse suspicion for the interview in an exclusive manner, because during so they will carry out his action," explained Sugianyar.
As the commitment follow-up stopped the envelope culture, the Denpasar AJI will send the written request to several government agencies and private enterprise so that no longer budgeted for the fund for the reporter.
