Diarrhea outbreak, 19 people died in hospitals Sidoarjo
TEMPO.CO, Sidoarjo - For the last two months, thousands of patients with diarrhea hospitalized in Sidoarjo regency, East Java. As many as 1061 diarrhea patients (70 percent of infants and children) were treated in almost all classes of service. "An increasing number of patients with diarrhea is caused by the lack of cleanliness of the environment due to factors rainy season" said Deputy Director of Patient Services Regional Hospital Sidoarjo, dr. Atok Irawan, Thursday, January 24, 2013.
He said of the total number of 1061 patients registered 19 patients with diarrhea died. A total of 14 patients died in December 2012, and five patients died in the third week of January 2013. Most who die are children under five due to gastrointestinal infections are spread and or followed by other diseases.
According Atok, environmental cleanliness level in the rainy season due to reduced water-borne waste. Moreover, in some areas of Sidoarjo high rainfall resulting in flooding. In fact, waterlogging was also potentially lead to other diseases such as dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), skin diseases and dysentery.
Fauzi, Head of Disease Prevention Department of Health Sidoarjo, said the number of patients with diarrhea in the city of Sidoarjo increased. A number of figures showing indications of diarrhea outbreak has spread in Sidoarjo.
From the data report Sidoarjo Regional Hospital, 19 patients had died from diarrhea. The data showed an increase in diarrhea plague victims in the period December 2012 to January 2013. Patients majority of infants and children are divided into two groups of under seven years of age to 15 years of age.
Government urged to keep vigilant and keep the environment clean during the rainy season. Sidoarjo Health Department will conduct information dissemination on environmental cleanliness. In 2011, the 29 patients died due to diarrhea.
