Bird Flu Peeking in Solo

SOLO, KOMPAS.com - As many as eight of the 11 chickens owned by residents Kerten RT I RW03 Kelurahan, Kecamatan Laweyan, Surakarta, died suddenly on Monday (2/21/2011), fell ill and tested positive for avian influenza or bird flu.
"The test results cloacal swabs of dead chickens tested positive for AI show. Carcasses of chicken that are immediately destroyed along with three other chickens are still alive," said Chief Agricultural Department Weny Surakarta Solo Ekayanti told reporters on Wednesday (23/02/2011) .
On Monday morning, it received a report of their citizens that chicken died suddenly on that day.
"We immediately terjunkan team of Participatory Disease Surveillance and Response (PDSR) to take samples and sterilize the environment. So, people do not need to panic because it was prevented from spreading," he said.
Sterilization is done by spraying disinfectant around the cages and the area around the location of the findings of the case.
In this issue, it also has to coordinate with the city health department via local health centers to check the condition of my family chicken owners.
"Families are also owners of chickens have been checked and tested negative. So, no transmission to humans," he said.
He asked the owner of livestock, especially poultry, to be aware of symptoms of pain in animals. Especially during the transition period, animals are susceptible to disease because of reduced body resistance.
Weny said it also adds to the intensity of supervision following the emergence of positive cases of AI in the Klaten area recently. Nevertheless, the agriculture department has regularly scheduled monitoring and maintenance of livestock.
