Re: Indonesia BF - 06/05 - 06/08

No Not my reading of the table. Of 557 overall suspected cases, 395 cases (Bukan Flu Burung) were diagnosed as something else. The first two columns are WHO confirmed cases (total, and number of dead). For those 50, CFR of about 74%. The second two columns represent probable cases (14, of which 5 died) for a CFR of 28%.

Columns 5 and 6 are the total suspected bird flu cases and the number that died (97, 37 respectively) with a CFR of about 38%.

In summary, these data indicate that Indonesia officials (?) have identified 161 human H5N1 cases (confirmed, probable, and suspected), with an overall CFR of 49%. Those are not very good odds, but its does seem to be a realistic number at this point in time.

Thanks to all of you as I struggle to understand this, but clear heads make it way easier for me to get a grasp. Like you Shannon I also thought the case numbers were higher. Yay for people who actually do have the requisite skill to untangle intricate information..thanks.
