Indiana has first case of new mosquito-borne virus

A Fort Wayne area resident has become the first person in Indiana to test positive for a mosquito-borne virus similar to dengue fever that until last year did not exist in the Americas.

Indiana?s first person to fall ill with the chikungunya virus had recently traveled to the Caribbean, which has seen multiple cases of the disease since late 2013, according to the Indiana State Department of Health. Before the end of last year, the virus had been found only in Africa, Asia and Indian Ocean and Western Pacific islands...
