Clark County Health Department Director Mike Meyer presented the final plan for the distribution of anti-viral medication in the event of a pandemic flu in the county to the County Commissioners Thursday for approval.
The federal government has a plan to provide a certain amount of ant-virals to states and counties, and the health department is required to form a plan for distribution. Meyer said there had been no changes to the plan since it had been submitted for the commissioners? approval at the previous meeting.
The department?s plan names Jeffersonville High School as the main storage and distribution site, with area hospitals and medical centers to be provided with the drugs. Only residents who show pandemic flu symptoms ? who are estimated to have been contracted in the past 48 hours, ? will be given the anti-virals, which is said to be the most effective way to handle a possible pandemic.
The commissioners unanimously approved the plan, though Meyer said it may have some further adjustments. Those adjustments were not specified at the meeting.
