India urges swine flu affected countries to screen outbound passengers
New Delhi, June 11 (IANS) As three more people arriving from abroad tested positive for swine flu, India Thursday asked its missions in the affected countries to impress on their governments on an ?urgent basis? the need for screening all outbound passengers for the deadly virus to prevent its spread here.
?Regarding the screening of outbound passengers coming to India from countries affected by influenza A (H1N1), we have issued necessary instructions to our missions in the concerned countries to take up the matter with the host governments on an urgent basis,? an external affairs ministry statement said.
The statement came as three more cases of swine flu were reported in India, taking to 15 the number of cases in the country, officials said.
In New Delhi, two people - a 41-year-old woman who arrived from New York June 5 and a 17-year-old student from Boston - have tested positive. In Goa, a 41-year old man who arrived from London via Germany also tested positive for the virus.
