Health dept alerts villagers to viral diseases

Statesman News Service
KENDRAPADA, Sept. 25: The district wing of the state health department today sounded an alert in the riverside villages, after nearly 150 residents fell sick due to suspected attack of Chikenguniya and other viral diseases.
Panic has gripped the residents of the Jadupur village under Mahakalpada block, with the disease casting its shadow on almost on every household.
Virus borne diseases have spread rapidly in the village. The national-high-side village is located in the close vicinity of the Paradip port town and a sizeable chunk of the population are migrant workers. Some of the migrant workers might be the carriers of the viral diseases.
We are keeping a close vigil on the situation. From the reports received from the medical teams, it is believed that the villagers have been hit by intense viral fever, according to the members of the medical team who visited the affected villages today.
The sick villagers are down with high body temperatures. Besides some of them are experiencing excruciating joint pain. About ten of the seriously ill patients have already been shifted to the district headquarters hospital.
The medical team has collected over 100 blood samples and they have been sent to the micro-biology department of the SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack.
