Assam: Brahmaputra water level recedes, flood toll rises to 150
The railway link between Assam and the rest of India however continued to remain suspended for the seventh day after floods in Bihar caused major damage to railway tracks and bridges since August 12.

The water levels of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries have gone down but 11 more deaths in Assam took the flood toll to 150 on Friday. Rail connectivity between the Northeast and the rest of India remained cut for the seventh consecutive day.

The death toll in Bihar floods rose from 202 to 253. About 1.26 crore people are grappling with the flooding in 18 districts of the State.

PATNA/LUCKNOW: The death toll in Bihar floods has crossed the 300 mark with 51 people losing their lives since Sunday. The figure of flood fatalities stood at 253 till Sunday. 1.38 crore people are battling the deluge in 18 districts of the state. The figure of flood fatalities rose by three each in Assam and Uttar Pradesh. However, life in the deluge-ravaged areas of West Bengal slowly limped back to normalcy, with the water level of rivers receding.

Lucknow: The overall flood situation in Uttar Pradesh remained grim on Monday with three more deaths pushing the toll to 72, the state relief commissioner's office said.

Over 20 lakh people have been hit by the current spell of floods in 24 districts of the state.

"The death toll in the floods has reached 72 in the state. 2,688 villages in 24 districts are flooded," the relief commissioner's office said here citing a flood report.

Flood situation remains grim in UP: 86 deaths so far

Lucknow, Aug 22 (UNI) Flood situation in Uttar Pradesh remained critical with more than 2 million people reeling under the impact of the deluge in 25 districts. Official sources here today said that 86 deaths have been reported in the floods so far while more than 2,000 villages were marooned in the flood waters. Indian Air Force (IAF) has rescued people marooned by flood waters in three east UP districts of Siddharthnagar, Kushinagar and Maharajganj. IAF choppers had made at least 150 sorties during the past 48 hours and rescued more than 200 persons

According to an official release, till date 7,61,774 people have been evacuated to safe places by the rescue teams of the Army, the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force, while the government has set up 1,085 relief camps in which 2,29,097 people are living.

LUCKNOW: The toll in the Uttar Pradesh floods today rose to 91 with reports of nine more deaths as the situation remained grim with 24 lakh people affected by the deluge in the state's eastern districts.

Nearly 57,000 people have taken shelter in relief camps in flood-affected districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh where there was no let up in the situation as waters of rivers emanating from Nepal caused havoc in vast swathes of human habitation, the relief commissioner's office said citing a flood report compiled till yesterday.

UP floods death toll at 99

Lucknow: As many as seven deaths were reported on Saturday from different areas, taking the toll to 99 in flood-affected districts in Uttar Pradesh. Apart from this there are three persons injured, and two missing, the flood control room located in the office of relief commissioner told PTI.

The number of flood-affected districts has reduced from 24 to 16, officials said while over 11.22 lakh people have been affected. A large number of people have taken shelter in relief camps as rivers Rapti, Ghaghara, Burhi Rapti, Kunhara, Rohin and Quano are in spate and have inundated vast areas in Lakhimpur Khiri, Barabanki, Faizabad, Ballia, Gorakhpur and Siddharthnagar.

NEW DELHI: As many as 42 deaths in flood-related incidents were reported from Bihar in the last 24 hours, taking the toll to 482, whereas five persons lost their lives in Uttar Pradesh, pushing the flood toll in that state to 101.

The situation in flood-hit Assam though improved substantially and in north Bengal, the flood waters had receded from most of the areas in the six flood-hit districts.

As many as 1.71 crore people in 19 districts of Bihar were still affected by the deluge, officials said.

Five people have died since Tuesday when torrential rains in Mumbai and neighbouring cities caused flooding and house collapses. Mumbai recorded 298 mm of rainfall on Tuesday, the highest in a day in August since 1997, according to data from the India Meteorological Department.

The Santacruz weather station gauged a whopping 298 mm of precipitation. This was second only to 346.2 mm of rainfall registered on August 23, 1997, the data showed.
