New Delhi: Six new cases of swine flu were reported on Friday -- Delhi, 3, Bangalore, 2; Mumbai, 1 -- taking the total number to 50.

Of the Delhi cases, one is of human-to-human transmission. A woman of 66 tested positive after coming in contact with her son who had travelled abroad.

The other cases are of a boy of 9 who had arrived from the US and of a 28-year-old who had arrived from Egypt.

In Bangalore, a two-year-old boy, who came from the US, and a 36-year-old from Frankfurt reported fever and cough and tested positive. The only case in Mumbai is of a 36-year-old man who arrived from New Jersey.

New Delhi (IANS): Two adults and a five-year-old boy were on Saturday tested positive for the influenza A(H1N1) virus in the national capital, taking the total number of affected people in India to 53.

"Three more people have tested positive for the A(H1N1) flu on Saturday, including an indigenous case where the patient contracted the flu without going abroad," Delhi Health Secretary J.P. Singh told IANS.

The five-year-old boy who came back from Canada and was admitted to the Airport Health Organisation Hospital (APHO) two days back, has tested positive.

A 27-year-also man who travelled from Canada has also tested positive for A(H1N1) flu at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

The third is an indigenous case in which a woman contracted the flu from her sister and nephew who had come from the U.S. and tested positive June 17.

"They have been kept in isolation and their contacts are being identified and given tamiflu. We now have 15 A(H1N1) flu cases in various hospitals in the capital," he said.

The capital accounts for five of the six human-to-human transfer cases in the country.

The World Health Organisation has reported 44,287 laboratory confirmed cases of Influenza A(H1N1) infection from 89 countries as of June 17. There have been 180 deaths across the world.

Six more persons, including two minors, tested positive for swine flu today taking the total number of cases in the country to 56.

Out of the six fresh cases, three are from Delhi, one from Hyderabad, one from Bangalore and one from Fatehgarh in Punjab.

"Six new cases have been reported from Delhi (3), Hyderabad (1), Bangalore (1) and Fatehgarh of Punjab (1). Of the 56 cases, 21 have been discharged while others remain admitted to hospitals," a Health Ministry official said.

Of the three cases in Delhi, the case of a 30-year-old woman is that of human to human transmission. He contracted the disease from his family member who was reported positive three days ago.

This is the fifth case of human to human transmission of swine flu in Delhi.

The other cases in Delhi are that of a 27-year-old man who travelled from Canada to New Delhi on June 17 and a four-and-half-year-old boy who travelled from Toronto to New Delhi on the same day.

A 32-year-old man, who travelled from New York to Hyderabad on June 13, was another swine flu case in Hyderabad while in Bangalore, a 25-year-old man, who came from Philaldephia on June 17 also tested positive for the disease.

The sixth case was reported from Fatehgarh Sahib where a 15-year-old boy, who was among a group of 20 children and four others who had gone to NASA, tested positive for swine flu.

Four more test positive for swine flu, India tally now 63

New Delhi, June 22 : Four more people in different parts of the country tested positive for the influenza A (H1N1) Monday, taking the total number of people affected by the flu virus in India to 63.


The condition of a 66-year-old woman, who contracted the flu from her son, deteriorated and she was put on ventilator in a hospital in Delhi.

'The woman tested positive June 17 and was shifted to Deen Dayal Updhayay Hospital. She is said to have a chronic respiratory illness and her condition deteriorated Sunday and she was put on ventilator. She continues to be on ventilator. A group of experts is attending to her,' a health ministry official said.

'Four new cases - two from Delhi and one each from Mumbai and Pune - tested positive for the swine flu in India Monday,' the official said.

In Delhi, a 25-year-old man who came from the US and self reported to an identified health facility with complaints of sore throat June 20 was tested positive for the flu.

The second case was of a 29-year-old woman, who travelled from Canada via Belgium and reached Delhi June 18. She has also tested positive for the flu.

In Pune, a 24-year-old man who came from the US via London and reported to the hospital with flu like symptoms tested positive for the virus.

In Mumbai, a 23-year-old woman who came from Melbourne June 19 has also tested positive for the flu.

'All these people have been isolated and are being treated. We are trying to trace their contacts,' the official said.

With increasing number of cases in Delhi, the government has sought help from the private hospitals in the capital.

'We have written to all private hospitals asking them to join hands with the government in handling swine flu patients. They have to prepare isolation wards and the government will provide them with the Tamiflu drug. But we are yet to hear from them,' said a senior health official in Delhi government.

Meanwhile, of the 63 cases 37 have been discharged after they recovered from the flu. India has reported six indigenous cases where people contracted the flu without going abroad.

World Health Organization (WHO) has reported 44,287 laboratory confirmed cases of influenza A(H1N1) infection from 94 countries. There have been 180 deaths.

Health screening of passengers coming from affected countries is continuing in 22 international airports. 44,691 passengers have been screened on June 21 with 27,345 passengers from affected countries.

A total of 224 doctors and 112 paramedics have been deployed to man 77 counters at these airports. A cumulative total of over 2,200,000 passengers have been screened.

NEW DELHI: Five more persons, including three in the national capital, tested positive for swine flu on Tuesday as the total number of cases
nationwide rose to 68.

One case in Delhi is that of a human to human transmission while the others in the city who were detected with the virus are women, a senior Health Ministry official said. The other two cases are from Bangalore and Hyderabad.

The human to human transmission case is that of a 15- year-old man who got the infection from a family member who was earlier detected as positive.

The other cases in the city are that of a 58-year-old woman, who travelled from the US, and a 23-year-old woman, who reached from Canada.

With this, the number of cases in Delhi has risen to 29. Yesterday, two persons were tested positive for the virus from the city, which has reported the highest number of swine flu cases in the country so far.

The case from Bangalore is that of 25-year-old man who came to the southern city yesterday while a 30-year-old woman, who came from the US, tested positive for the disease in Hyderabad.

"Out of the 68 cases, 41 have been discharged. Rest of the patients are admitted to the identified health facilities across the country," the official said.

The WHO reported 52,160 laboratory confirmed cases of A/H1N1 influenza infection from 99 countries till yesterday. There have been 231 deaths due to swine flu.

In India, health screening of passengers coming from affected countries is continuing in 22 international airports.

Till yesterday, 45,493 passengers have been screened of which 27,906 passengers were from affected countries.

In Goa, samples of two suspected swine flu patients in have been sent for testing at the National Institute of Communicable Diseases in Delhi.

"The mother-son duo has been quarantined and the report of their samples is awaited," an official said.

The 32-year-old son had arrived from US on June 2 and developed flu-like symptoms after few days, the official said, adding his mother (50), who lives in Goa, also showed similar symptoms later.

NEW DELHI: Nine new cases of swine flu were reported in the country on Saturday taking the total number of cases to 91.

Four cases each was reported from Delhi and Bangalore while one from Punjab, a senior health ministry official said.

In Bangalore, a family of four, which reached yesterday transiting through Germany from Newark in the United States by Lufthansa flight, tested positive for the virus.

The 38-year-old man, his 32-year-old wife and two children -- nine-year-old daughter and two-year-old son -- were quarantined at the Bangalore airport and later shifted to the identified health facility, the official said.

Four new cases were reported from the national capital which include a nine-year-old child who arrived here on Friday from Seattle by Asiana Airlines.

The other three, two women aged 40 years and 13 years and a nine-year-old boy, reported to the hospital yesterday after they had shown some symptoms.

The three had reached Delhi on June 23 from the United States.

The swine flu case from Gurdaspur in Punjab was an indigenous one which developed after contacts with a positive case reported on June 23, the official said.

About 645 persons have been tested so far of which 91 were found positive for swine flu.

Meanwhile, screening of inbound passengers from affected countries continues at 22 international airports. Till yesterday, 54,113 passengers have been screened out of which 37,296 came from affected countries. Of the 91 positive cases, 59 have been discharged.

The World Health Organisation has reported 59,814 confirmed cases of swine flu from 112 countries as on June 26. A total of 263 deaths have also been reported.

In Gurgaon, a 12-year-old girl tested positive Sunday. Officials said the girl got the virus after she came in contact with a person who had earlier been found infected with the swine flu.

On Sunday, West Bengal reported its second confirmed case of the swine flu with a five-year-old girl testing positive for the virus.

The girl, a resident of Dhuliajan in Assam, is being treated at the state-run Infectious Diseases Hospital, said state [COLOR=#b00e0][COLOR=blue !important][COLOR=blue !important]health [/COLOR][COLOR=blue !important]department[/COLOR][/COLOR][/COLOR] official Tapas Sen.

The girl, with her parents, arrived at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport from Bangkok early Friday with symptoms of the swine flu and was sent to the hospital.

The [COLOR=#b00e0][COLOR=blue !important][COLOR=blue !important]father[/COLOR][/COLOR][/COLOR] of the girl has tested negative, while the mother's test report is awaited.

The three members of the family have been kept quarantined in a special ward in the hospital, where another seven-year-old girl - the first confirmed swine flu patient in the state - is also being treated.

In Mumbai, a 45-year-old woman, whose 15-year-old daughter had been detected with the flu June 26, also tested positive for the virus, officials said here.

The mother and daughter had travelled from the US to Delhi June 22, and reached Mumbai by train the next day.

While the girl complained of fever, cough and running nose and was admitted to an identified health facility at Mumbai June 25, her mother was found to be suffering from the symptoms the next day.

'Their contacts are being identified,' the officials added.

The Kerala mother-son duo, who tested positive for the influenza A(H1N1), arrived at the Kochi airport from London while a woman had arrived from the Middle-East at the Karipur airport in Kozhikode.

'Their reports have come. These are the first cases of the swine flu in Kerala. But there is nothing to worry because there are treatment protocols for the virus,';) Health Minister Sreemathi told IANS.

Out of the nearly 680 people tested for the virus so far, at least 191 were identified through entry screening at the 22 international airports across the country, while 27 were detected through contact tracing and the rest had self-reported.

A total of 2.5 million passengers have been screened so far since the outbreak, the officials added. India reported its first swine flu case May 16.

New Delhi: Three new cases of swine flu were reported in India on Wednesday taking the total number of cases reported to 112, a statement said.

One person each in Delhi, Bangalore and Gurgaon tested positive for H1N1 infection.

"The case in Delhi is of an 11-year-old male child who travelled from Munich via Dubai and reached Delhi June 26. On June 30, since he was having fever and cough, he reported at the identified health facility where he is admitted," a statement issued by the Health Ministry said on Wednesday.

According to the statement: "The case in Bangalore is of a 29-year-old male passenger travelling from Changsha, China to Bangalore June 28. He reported at the identified health facility June 30 with symptoms of fever and cough."

The third case in Gurgaon was of an 11-year-old girl, who travelled from Chicago, USA to Delhi by American Airlines reaching New Delhi June 28. On June 30 she reported with symptoms of cough and sore throat at the identified health facility where she is admitted.

So far 769 persons have been tested of which 112 tested positive for Influenza A H1N1. Of the 112 positive cases, 74 have been discharged.

New Delhi, July 6 : Nine new cases of swine flu were reported Monday, taking the total figure of the influenza A H1N1 cases in the country to 145 so far, health officials said here.


'Of the 939 persons tested so far in the country, 145 have been tested positive for the influenza A (H1N1),' a statement issued here said.

Of the total cases, 103 people have been discharged from hospital after treatment.

The new cases Monday were reported from Delhi (2), Jalandhar (2), Mumbai (2), Kochi (1), Bangalore (1) and Gurgaon (1).

Health officials said of the five new laboratory-confirmed cases, two were from Delhi, followed by and one each from Bangalore, Mumbai and Pune.
In Delhi, a father-son duo were detected with the virus. The 31-year-old man had travelled from Bangkok and reached Delhi July 2. On July 8, he developed swine-flu like symptoms. The man's eight-year-old son also developed fever. Both tested positive for the flu Friday.

In Bangalore, a five-year old girl who had come from New York with her family tested positive Friday.

According to the WHO.
(WHO), 94,512 laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza A (H1N1) were reported from 135 countries till July 6. There have been 429 deaths worldwide, mostly in Mexico and the US.

India Tuesday reported 17 new swine flu cases, taking the total number of people infected with the influenza A(H1N1) virus to 229 while a whopping number of 88 are in hospitals, a health ministry official said Tuesday.

'So far, about 1,246 people have been tested, of whom 229 are positive for Influenza A(H1N1). Out of the total people tested for the virus, 370 were identified through airport screening,' the official said.

'Of the 229 positive cases, 141 have been discharged. Rest of them - 88 people - remain admitted to the identified health facility,' a health ministry statement said.

The 17 new cases have been reported from Chennai (6), Ahmedabad (1), Pune (1), Hyderabad (3) Kolkata (2), Thiruvananthapuram (2), Delhi (1), and Bangalore (1).

Health officials said most of the swine flu cases detected Tuesday are children who had returned from a yearlong study tour in the US.

The children had travelled by American Airlines and had reached Delhi July 4 and after staying here for three days, they flew off to their homes.

In Chennai, of the six cases reported, four are of those children who had gone for the study tour.

A total of 40 children had gone under the yearlong exchange programme through an NGO and had traveled back to India from Chicago.

These children belong to Maharashtra (9), Gujarat (18), Karnataka (1), Tamil Nadu (7) and Delhi (5).

One child who tested positive for the flu transmitted the virus to his grandmother in Chennai, officials said here.

In Ahmedabad, a person who came in contact with a US-returned child tested positive for the flu, was found to be infected with the virus. In Pune, one of the children from the same US returned group was tested positive for the swine flu.

Last week, in Ahmedabad two people belonging to the group of 40 had tested positive for the flu.

In Kolkatta, a 45-year-old man and his 10-year-old daughter tested positive for the flu. They had come from London via Delhi and reached Kolkata July 11.

In Thiruvananthapuram, a nine-year old boy and a seven-year-old girl tested positive for the swine flu. Their mother had earlier been found infected with the virus.

India's swine flu tally up to 285

New Delhi: Seventeen people, including 14 children, were detected with the swine flu today, taking the total influenza A (H1N1) virus cases in India to 285, health officials said.

The youngest to test positive for the virus is an 11-month-old boy.
"So far 1,506 people have been tested out of which 285 are positive for influenza A (H1N1). Of the 285 positive cases, 178 have been discharged," a statement said here.

The 17 new confirmed cases were reported from Delhi (7), Pune (5), Cochin (2), Thiruvananthapuram (1), Kozhikode (1) and Goa (1).

The 11-month-old boy with swine flu is from Delhi. The child had travelled from New York to Delhi on July 14. Two days later, he developed flu-like symptoms.

Two brothers, 14 and 10 years old, and two sisters, aged nine and two-and-a-half-years, also tested positive today.

According to Anjana Prakash, additional nodal officer for swine flu with the Delhi government, 10 students were admitted at various identified health facilities with flu like symptoms. Of the total, four tested positive. The reports of six are awaited.

All these students are from four prestigious public schools in the national capital.

"We have reiterated to the school authorities to ensure that if any student shows flu-like symptoms the child should be immediately sent home," she said.
"There is nothing to panic. But people need to be cautious," Prakash told media.

In Pune, all five cases, four girls and a boy all in their early teens, got the virus from infected persons.

In Kochi, one of the two cases is of a nine-year old boy. He had come from London on July 17. And as he was suffering from fever and cough, he was taken to the identified facility. His test was positive for swine flu.

In Thiruvananthapuram, a 10-year-old girl, who travelled from Britain via Dubai, was found to be suffering from flu-like symptoms.

In Kozhikode, a 15-year-old girl was detected with swine flu, while in Goa, a 20-year-old man tested positive. (IANS)

Two more swine flu cases detected in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, July 19 : The number of swine flu cases in Hyderabad has risen to 39 after two more people Sunday tested positive for the Influenza A(H1N1).

The two patients - a physician from Riyadh and a software engineer from Malaysia - have been quarantined at Andhra Pradesh Chest Hospital, the nodal centre to deal with swine flu cases.

Doctors said the two had landed in the city last week with swine flu symptoms. Their samples were sent to National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD), New Delhi.

This has taken to 39 the city's swine flu tally since May 16, when India's first case was reported here. Of them, 30 have been treated and discharged from hospital, state authorities said.

Meanwhile, the efforts of health authorities and doctors at the Chest Hospital have helped in restoring normalcy in the city's IT sector, after panic last week when a software engineer returned from the US with swine flu and spread the virus to eight IT employees of three different companies.

The scare led to internet search giant Google shutting down one of its offices for two days (July 14 and 15). It resorted to the move after one of its contractual workers was tested positive.

The company asked other employees to undergo the tests at Chest Hospital but the health authorities termed the company's action as 'hyperactive'.

K. Subhakar, coordinator of swine flu nodal centre, said 10 software engineers who were suspected to have swine flu symptoms were tested negative.

India Confirms 23 More Cases Of Swine Flu, Total Now 498

India confirmed 23 more cases of the deadly Influenza A (H1N1) virus on Wednesday, taking the total cases to 498, the health ministry said.

Of the 23 new cases that tested positive for swine flu, 11 from came from Pune, five from New Delhi, two from Cochin and one each from Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Roorkee and Calicut, according to a health ministry press statement.

So far, 2252 people have been tested, of which 498 are positive for Influenza A (H1N1), 481 out of the 2252 tested have been identified through entry screening, 351 people through contact tracing and the rest were self reported, the statement added.

"Of the 498 positive cases, 273 have been discharged," the ministry said, adding that rests of them remain admitted.
