MANGALORE: Fr Muller Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital team, which organised chikungunya treatment camps at different Primary Health Centres(PHC) in Puttur, claimed that the chikungunya symptomatic cases have responded well to the Homoeopathic medicine and the duration of the illness was reduced significantly.
People who were regularly taking analgesics could stop or minimise after starting homoeopathic treatment, the team said.
According to their observation, the occurrence of new cases were negligible among those who had taken Homoeopathy preventive medicines. Homoeopathy gives 90- 95 per cent protection and people who got chikungunya even after taking Homoeopathic preventive medicine, had a very mild attack with minimal disability, stated a release from the hospital.
Considering the magnitude of the new infections, it was felt that Homoeopathic drug administration would help in preventing the chikungunya menace. As per the directions of Puttur taluk health officer Dr Asha, the hospital teams started camps on May 17.
A team of 60 people consisting of 10 doctors, 20 PG students and 30 interns participated in the camp. Team worked at PHCs of Uppinangady, Nelyady PHC, Koyla PHC, Kaniyoor PHC and Savanoor PHC.
In every PHC, the team provided preventive as well as curative medicines. The cases of chikungunya were in different stages which include initial stage with high fever and articular pains, a few with only joint pains and others having high fever and myalgia.
Symptomatic treatment was given to the patients to reduce their suffering. Generally, with Homoeopathic medicines, temperature comes down in 12-18 hours and joint pain relieves within 3-5 days. Preventive medicines were given to more than 20,000 persons in six days.
Curative medicines were given to more than 5,000 patients and they could go back to their work within 2-3 days, the release added.
