Cerebral malaria claims seven lives in Garadapur tehsil

KENDRAPARA, May 28: Seven persons including a woman and a child have reportedly died of cerebral malaria in Marshaghai and Garadapur tehsil region over the last one month.
There are reports of killer disease?s strike in several villages of the said tehsils at periodic intervals. Apart from the latest casualties, the disease has also claimed nearly a dozen of lives in past six months.
But the government statistics restrict the number of victims to two. The outbreak of the vector-borne in affected villages has been taken for investigation by the social preventive medicine department of Cuttack?s S.C.B Medical College & Hospital.
Official sources said that conclusive findings on the vector-borne parasite strike are awaited.
?As majority of victims died in the Cuttack medical college hospital, we are not in a position to state that the diseased persons died due to the cerebral malarial strike?, said a medical officer of the district headquarters hospital while adding that the killer disease in past one year has claimed only two lives from the Marshsghai and Garadapur tehsil area.
The strike of the killer disease has left the locals a worried lot in Kusunpur, Birabhadrapur, Jenasahi, Bedari, and adjoining villages.
