H1N1: 42 new cases in Pune

Four of the six cases in the ICU of Sassoon General Hospital, where 42-year-old teacher Sanjay Kokare of Daund died on Saturday, are said to be ?critical? even as 42 new cases of H1N1 were detected in Pune on Sunday. According to the Maharashtra Swine Flu Control Cell, 33 of these cases have been admitted to Naidu Hospital, six to Aundh General Hospital and three at Sassoon hospital.
A 13-year-old student from Narayan Peth is the latest to be put on ventilator. At Sassoon, a 55-year-old woman from Kondhwa, admitted on Saturday evening, and a 36-year-old doctor from Yerwada who has been on ventilator for three days are said to be in a critical state. A 35-year-old chemist from Hadapsar is also on ventilator, but is said to be stable along with the other two ICU patients ? a six-year-old boy and 19-year-old youth.
Dean Arun Jamkar said Kokare?s condition had been critical from the beginning. The administration has now home-quarantined 12 contacts of Kokare and put them on medication. ?They were put on Tamiflu at 1.40 am on Sunday and home quarantined,? said Pradeep Awte, in charge, state influenza cell. In all, on Sunday, 54 contacts of positive cases were home-quarantined and given Tamiflu. Till now, over 1,100 contacts of positive cases have been home-quarantined, he added.
