Srinagar, Jan 26: What could spark a major health concern, around 300 persons have tested positive for Hepatitis C virus in Takiya Magam village of South Kashmir?s Islamabad (Anantnag) district.
Public health experts told Greater Kashmir that the investigation by Integrated Disease Surveillance Project (IDSP) lab of the Directorate of Health Services confirmed that 30 percent of the 1081 samples tested positive for Hepatitis C virus in the village.
Health experts say the scenario is extremely alarming and an epidemic of very high magnitude. According to them, the suspected source of the outbreak is the unhygienic and unprofessional chemists and diagnostics centers operating in the areas which led to high incidence of the virus...

Anantnag, Jan 31: A team of doctors and paramedics from SKIMS Thursday visited Takia Magam village in Kokernag area here in Anantnag district, to collect fresh samples from patients tested positive for Hepatitis-C virus.

According to reports more than 300 villagers in the area have tested positive so far.
However, the cause of the outbreak is yet to be ascertained.
The Department of Gastroenterology, SKIMS Thursday sent a team of doctors to the village to conduct a medical check up of locals and collect fresh samples as well.
?A medical check up of about 400 villagers was conducted and fresh samples were collected to ascertain the cause of the outbreak,? Director SKIMS Dr Showket Zargar said.
He said the epidemic must be at least a decade old...
