Illness Hits Two Alaska Cruise Ships

Two cruise ships sailing Alaska waters have had recent outbreaks of norovirus or another gastrointestinal illness. Norovirus is a highly contagious illness causing vomiting and diarrhea.

The latest outbreak is on the Dawn Princess, which is wrapping up a three-week cruise including stops in Southeast and Southcentral Alaska.

The federal Centers for Disease Control reports six and a half (6.5) percent of its nearly 1,800 passengers suffered from norovirus at some point in the cruise. The CDC requires reports of outbreaks of more than 3 percent.

The earlier outbreak was on Royal Caribbean Cruise Line?s Rhapsody of the Seas. An unspecified gastrointestinal illness struck more than seven (7) percent of passengers during a week-long Inside Passage cruise...
