-->St. Paul Lutheran School and Daycare in Green Bay is closed today through Thursday due to high student absence levels.

Classes are expected to reconvene Friday.

School officials working with the Brown County Health Department made the call Monday due to an outbreak of flu-like illness at school, according to a letter from principal Ken Kasten.

Thirty-one students were out sick by day?s end Friday, and 30 students and seven faculty and staff members were sick Monday, officials said. That?s nearly 30 percent absenteeism for the small school.

St. Paul faculty and school board members will consider whether the days have to be made up, although Wisconsin Department of Instruction rules do not require it.

Kasten?s letter home urges parents to keep kids home and recuperating today, Wednesday and Thursday, rather than treating the school closure as a 3-day vacation. The letter also details prevention measures and what students should do if ill.
