County jail inmate tests positive for tuberculosis

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WICS/WCCU) ? A local hospital alerted the Champaign County Sheriff's Office Monday that a person in custody had tested positive for tuberculosis.

On Feb. 27, Correctional Center inmates informed medical staff that another inmate had a cough, accompanied by some blood.

After an examination, the inmate said he had been experiencing a persistent cough with blood for approximately a month or two, according to officials. Medical staff later took a chest x-ray.

On Feb. 28, medical staff transported the inmate to a local hospital for suspected pneumonia, as indicated on the x-ray...
