Pune: Now disease surveillance and data management in the civic body is set to get more scientific. IBM announced its new venture with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), on Thursday, to start an integrated surveillance system. The system would track not just epidemics but a complete data management on healthcare delivery, services and diseases.

While the PMC already collects data on communicable diseases, the new initiative would collect data on other diseases to help detect emerging trends and threats to public health.

PMC additional municipal commissioner Anup Yadava said that the project involves the creation of a blueprint for setting up a surveillance system to address important issues related to public health of citizens.

?The company would collect data from PMC records and hospitals related to epidemics, non- communicable and lifestyle diseases, hospital facilities, etc. This data would be collated and studied by IBM?s team that would help us in understanding which areas in healthcare need urgent attention and solutions as well,? said Dr ST Pardeshi, PMC?s chief medical officer.
