Several EU countries have experienced this year a significant increase in the number of imported dengue cases reported. France, for example, has documented as of June 4th, 2024, already more than 2,500 dengue imported cases compared to 2,000 during the entire 2023. Despite no autochthonous case reported so far this year, there is significant media concern in relation to the risk of dengue local transmission, especially in the coming months, that will be most probably characterized by an increased competent vector activity, and a higher number of international visitors including people from endemic areas, due to relevant mass gatherings (e.g. Olympics Paris 2024) and/or generic tourism. ...
The latest figures report this year 2,767 dengue cases identified as of June 18, 2024, mainly in departments where an aedes albopictus population is documented.
So far, no autochthonous case has been reported in France however this has occurred sporadically in the past (45 cases in 2023 in Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, Ile-de-France Occitanie, PACA) and there are well-established control procedures in place in case this happens. ...
