How Canadian snowbirds are flocking south despite a border closure
"Any travel that isn’t necessary right now is concerning," writes local health department

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. —

Canadian snowbirds are flocking south through Plattsburgh International Airport amid continued restrictions to nonessential travel at land border crossings.

On weekday mornings and afternoons, you may find RVs with Canadian license plates lined up outside of Plattsburgh International Airport's Fixed Base Operator.

It's part of a process some may call a 'loophole' and according to many officials, it's completely legal, as long as travelers follow state guidelines when they enter each new jurisdiction.

Transport KMC is an RV transport company based in Quebec, now advertising to Canadian snowbirds who cannot cross the border by land.

Customers come into Plattsburgh International Airport on a small plane, about a 12-minute flight.

Snowbirds are then reunited with the keys to their vehicles and make their way south.

According to the company, they use their commercial business license to get RVs across the border...

We love our Canadian visitors each winter in Florida. If everyone follows common sense and local health advisories they should be allowed to come.
