Hospital visitors, programs suspended due to H1N1

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) --
As the H1N1 flu virus continues to spread throughout the state, St. Luke's and Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids are temporarily suspending some programs.
Beginning this Friday, the two hospitals will no longer hold hospital school tours, support groups and classes that include infants and children, or sibling birth classes.
Linn County Public Health continues to monitor school absenteeism and emergency room visits, and as peaks are noted some other restrictions will be put in place.
Visitation at both hospitals could be limited to two adult visitors per patient unless there is a special circumstance like end of life.
No visitors will be allowed if they show symptoms of any flu. Those include a fever of over 100 degrees Fahrenheit with a cough, sore throat, runny nose, shortness of breath, fatigue and/or chills.
The purpose of these measures is to help protect the health of at-risk groups like pregnant women and children under 6 months of age.
Linn County Public Health urges everyone to continue to follow the three C's, Clean your hands, Cover your cough and Contain your germs by staying home when you're sick.
