HONG KONG, Feb. 24, 2011 (Xinhua News Agency) -- Hong Kong hospitals reported two more flu A/H1N1-related death cases, the Hong Kong Hospital Authority said here on Thursday.
According to the hospitals, an 87-year-old man and a 75-year-old male patient, both infected with flu A/H1N1, died due to continued deterioration of clinical condition.
The cases will probably bring Hong Kong's total flu-related death toll to 22 this year.
In response to the recent influenza situation in Hong Kong, the Hospital Authority, in close collaboration with the Center for Health Protection, has activated the enhanced monitoring system for severe influenza patients staying in the intensive care units of public hospitals.
As of 2 p.m. Thursday, three new cases of flu A/H1N1 had been confirmed in the past 48 hours, including a 50-year-old male patient who is in critical condition. The other two patients, a male and a female both at the age of 60, are in serious condition, said the HA news release.
To date, 20 influenza patients are still staying in the intensive care units of public hospitals in Hong Kong, including the newly confirmed cases.
