Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital cluster of Norovirus infection


The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson for Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) made the following announcement today (August 23):

Two female patients and one male patient (aged from 66 to 99), and seven staff members of a clinical oncology ward of PYNEH have presented with gastroenteritis symptoms since August 10.

Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the three patients and all of them were positive for Norovirus.

Five staff members and three patients concerned have recovered while the other two staff members are on sick leave.

All admissions and visiting to the ward concerned have been suspended. Restricted discharge from the ward has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up. All other patients and staff members in the ward are under close surveillance.

The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.

Update on cluster of Norovirus cases in Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital


The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

Regarding an earlier announcement on some patients of a clinical oncology ward confirmed with Noroviral infection, the spokesperson of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital made the following update today (August 27):

One more 78-year-old female patient in the ward has presented with gastroenteritis symptoms.

Appropriate viral tests have been arranged and the results are pending.

The patient is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition.

All admission to the ward concerned has been suspended. Restricted visiting and discharge from the ward are imposed.

Infection control measures have already been stepped up. All other patients and staff members in the ward are under close surveillance.

The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
