EPIDEMIOLOGICAL COMMENTS
An ASF surveillance system is in place for domestic and wild pigs. Samples taken from a local pig farm tested positive for African Swine Fever (ASF) virus and subsequently classified as genotype II. The ASF contingency plan was activated and pig movement from the index farm was immediately suspended until further notice. Pigs from the index farm were killed and disposed of. Samples from one pig farm within the 3 km zone have been tested positive for ASF on 23 November 2023, classified as genotype II, and pigs were killed and disposed of. Pigs in another pig farm in San Tin, Yuen Long tested positive for ASF virus on 8 December 2023, ASF classified as genotype II, and pigs were killed and disposed of. Pigs in another pig farm in Lau Fau Shan, Yuen Long tested positive for ASF virus on 22 December 2023. Pigs in another 3 pig farms in San Tin, Yuen Long tested positive for ASF virus on 28 December 2023, 29 December 2023 and 2 January 2024. Pigs in another pig farm in Kwu Tung, Sheung Shui tested positive for ASF virus on 3 January 2024. Pigs in another 2 pig farms in San Tin, Yuen Long tested positive for ASF virus on 10 January 2024 and 15 January 2024 and culling of pigs is being arranged. Transportation from the farms concerned is suspended until further notice. Enhanced inspection, surveillance and investigation is conducted.
