Live chicken imports to double

The supply of live Mainland chickens will be doubled to 16,000 a day from August 3, the Food & Health Bureau says, adding the supply of Mainland day-old-chicks will also resume.

The bureau said today the arrangements will ensure a steady live chicken supply in the market, and have taken into account concerned departments' testing capability and balanced the risks of avian flu.

The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department and the Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department will closely monitor the live poultry wholesale market, retail markets and farms to protect public health.
