Cluster of Respiratory Syncytial Virus in paediatric infant ward of Queen Elizabeth Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
The spokesperson for Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) made the following announcement today (September 1):
Three 1-year-old female infants in the paediatric infant ward of QEH had presented with respiratory symptoms since August 24.
The test results of the infants concerned were positive for Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) infection.
One of the infants is now being treated in the Intensive Care Unit due to her chronic disease and is in serious condition.
For the other two infants, one has recovered while the other is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition.
Admission to the cubicle concerned at the ward has been suspended and visiting arrangements remain normal. Infection control measures at the ward concerned have already been stepped up. All exposed patients in the ward are under close medical surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
