Cluster of Norovirus cases at Queen Elizabeth Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson for Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) made the following announcement today (November 25):

A total of five babies (two male and three female, aged from 6 months to 31 months) and a student nurse at a paediatrics infant ward at QEH had presented with diarrhoea symptoms since November 17.

Appropriate tests were arranged for the patients, and three babies tested positive for Norovirus.

They are under isolation and in stable condition. The student nurse is currently on leave.

Infection control measures at the ward concerned have already been stepped up according to prevailing guidelines. All new cases will be admitted to designated rooms and visiting arrangements have been restricted. All other patients in the ward are under close medical surveillance.


The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

A spokesperson for Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) made the following announcement today (December 22):

Five babies (four male and one female, aged from three months to 14 months) in a surgical infant ward at QEH have presented with diarrhea symptoms since December 14.

Appropriate tests were arranged and all five babies confirmed positive to Norovirus.

One of the babies was discharged on December 20 and the remaining four are under isolation and in a stable condition.

Infection control measures at the ward concerned have already been stepped up according to prevailing guidelines.

All new cases will be admitted to designated rooms.

All other patients in the ward are under close medical surveillance.


The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
