Cluster of Influenza A cases in Castle Peak Hospital


The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson of Castle Peak Hospital (CPH) made the following announcement today (February 28):

Four patients (aged 44 to 63) and two staff members in a male long-stay ward had presented with respiratory symptoms since February 19.

Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients and they were positive for Influenza A.

The patients concerned are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition.

For the two staff members, one has recovered and resumed duty while the other is on sick leave.

Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines.

All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.

The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.

Three patients (aged 33 to 41) in a male adult psychiatric ward presented with respiratory symptoms today.

Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patients and their test results were positive to Influenza A.

The concerned patients are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition.

Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines.

All other patients in the concerned ward are under close surveillance.

The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.

Three more patients (aged 45 to 61) in the ward had presented with respiratory symptoms. Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patients and their test results were positive to Influenza A. The concerned patients are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition.

One more 46-year-old patient in the ward had presented with respiratory symptoms.

Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patient and the test results were positive for Influenza A.

The patient is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition.

Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines.
