Cluster of Human Metapneumovirus cases in long-stay ward of Castle Peak Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
The spokesperson for Castle Peak Hospital made the following announcement today (August 10):
Four female patients (aged 32 to 57) and a staff member in a long-stay ward had presented with respiratory symptoms since August 5.
Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patients and test results of two patients were positive for Human Metapneumovirus.
The patients concerned have been transferred to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment under isolation and are in stable condition. The staff member is on sick leave.
Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting to the ward has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
Regarding the announcement yesterday on a female long-stay ward in which some patients had been confirmed with Human Metapneumovirus, the spokesperson of Castle Peak Hospital made the following update today (August 11):
One more 70-year-old female patient and one more staff member in the ward presented with respiratory symptoms.
Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patient and the test results were positive for Human Metapneumovirus.
The patient concerned has been transferred to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment under isolation and is in stable condition. The staff member is on sick leave.
Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting to the ward has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.

Regarding the announcement earlier concerning a female long-stay ward at which some patients had been confirmed with Human Metapneumovirus, a spokesperson for Castle Peak Hospital made the following update today (August 12):
Three more female patients (aged 50 to 66) and a staff member in the ward have presented with respiratory symptoms.
Appropriate viral tests have been arranged for the patients and the test results of all three patients were positive for Human Metapneumovirus.
The patients concerned have been transferred to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment under isolation and are in a stable condition. The staff member concerned is now on sick leave.
Admission to the ward has been suspended and restricted visiting to the ward has been imposed.
