Case of fever with travel history under investigation


The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) received a report from Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) today (April 4) of a suspected case of Severe Respiratory Disease associated with Novel Coronavirus.

The 37-year-old woman, with good past health, presented with fever, headache and shortness of breath symptoms since April 1. She is now isolated in QEH. Her current condition is stable.

Initial investigations by the CHP revealed that the patient travelled to Turkey and Dubai from March 24 to 31.

Her chest X-ray showed left lower lobe pneumonia.

Respiratory specimens were taken and laboratory test results are expected to be available tomorrow (April 5).

"The CHP will continue its surveillance mechanism with public and private hospitals, practising doctors and the airport for any suspected cases of Severe Respiratory Disease associated with Novel Coronavirus," a DH spokesman remarked.

"No human infection with this virus has been identified so far in Hong Kong," the spokesman stressed.

The spokesman advised travellers returning from novel coronavirus-affected countries with respiratory symptoms to wear face masks, seek medical attention and reveal their travel history to doctors.

The spokesman reminded members of the public to pay attention to personal hygiene, especially wash hands:

• Before touching the eyes, nose and mouth;
• Before eating or handling food;
• After using the toilets; and
• After sneezing or coughing and cleaning the nose.

According to the SAR Government Information Services Department news, the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health of the Hong Kong SAR Government on the evening received a novel coronavirus caused severe respiratory disease suspected cases. Initial investigations revealed that the suspected infection in March 24 to 31, traveled to Turkey and Dubai Tourism.

　　It is reported that the suspected infection is a 37-year-old woman, previously healthy, presented with fever, headache and shortness of breath symptoms since April 1, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Hong Kong is currently being treated in isolation in a stable condition. The patient's lung X-ray examination showed her lobes bottom left of pneumonia. CHP has collected respiratory samples for laboratory tests, expected Laboratory test results are in the 5th.

　　SAR Government Department of Health spokesman said the CHP will continue through established with public and private hospitals, medical practitioners and airport monitoring mechanism to monitor any new coronavirus caused severe respiratory disease suspected cases.

　　According to statistics, since last year's discovery of class SARS (SARS) virus, a new type of coronavirus, the world has been informed of 17 cases of the novel coronavirus infections, including 11 deaths. (Reporter Lin Chien Yang)

Case of fever with travel history tests negative for novel coronavirus


A spokesman for the Department of Health (DH) today (April 5) provided an update on the suspected case of Severe Respiratory Disease associated with Novel Coronavirus.

Preliminary laboratory test results for the respiratory specimens of the 37-year-old woman last night (April 4) were negative for Novel Coronavirus associated with Severe Respiratory Disease.

The woman, with good past health, travelled to Turkey and Dubai from March 24 to 31. She presented with fever, headache and shortness of breath since April 1 and was isolated in Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Her current condition is stable.

"The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the DH will continue its surveillance mechanism with public and private hospitals, practising doctors and the airport for any suspected cases of Severe Respiratory Disease associated with Novel Coronavirus," a DH spokesman remarked.

"No human infection with this virus has been identified so far in Hong Kong," the spokesman stressed.

"We would like to reassure the public that the Government will be as transparent as possible in the dissemination of information on cases of Severe Respiratory Disease associated with Novel Coronavirus. Whenever there is a suspected case, particularly involving patients with travel history to the Middle East and the affected areas, the CHP will release information to the public as soon as possible." the spokesman added.
