TEGUCIGALPA .- Honduras was selected out of 95 countries of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to receive a donation of 140 thousand vaccines immunising against influenza A (H1N1) that is estimated would be arriving in the country next month February 2010.
In the latest report, issued on 16 November, health officials confirmed 583 positive cases and 16 deaths from influenza.
The representative of PAHO, Lilian Renau, said that with these medications may be given immunization coverage to 10 percent of the Honduran population public hospitals.
"Honduras is to receive the donation of 140 thousand doses by several pharmaceutical drug companies that produce this product in a first delivery. Besides countries that contribute a significant amount of vaccine, "said Renau.
The representative of the international body, indicated that these donations may cover immunization of at least 10 percent of the country, particularly to those vulnerable persons such as elderly, children and medical staff of the centers.
The purpose of the World Health Organization WHO is to ensure that all countries in the region have access to the vaccine.
