The Health Secretary Ko Wing-man says the government is jointly developing a blood test for poultry with the mainland in a bid to help authorities track the H7N9 bird flu virus.
Alhough the serum test could not be used to prevent infections, Dr Ko said it could help find out if poultry had contracted the virus or not.
Dr Ko said once it is ready in Hong Kong, it could then help researchers find out how wide-spread the virus is among poultry.
However, the health secretary didn't say when the serum will be ready, saying only that experts from both sides are working on technical issues.
